Our experienced team tastes dozens of wines before choosing which wines we featured each month.
Sara Schneider is Sunset Magazine’s wine editor. A graduate of the California Culinary Academy, she was the editor of Bay Food Magazine for three years before joining Sunset. Along with overseeing Sunset's wine coverage, developing recipes, and writing wine and food stories, Schneider writes a monthly wine column on news, trends, and issues. She also organizes regular wine tastings, oversees almost-daily pairings in the test kitchen, and as often as possible pulls a bottle or two from under her desk to help fellow Sunset editors unwind. Schneider has been nominated twice for James Beard Awards for magazine feature reporting and is the co-author of the book California Wine Country: A Sunset Field Guide.
Elaine Marshall, wine consultant, Certified Wine Professional, and former Director of Wine Development at Signature Wines, founded the First Street Wine Company in Livermore, California. She tastes hundreds of wines annually and has served as a wine judge for many California wine competitions. A graduate of the University of California at Davis, she has produced and bottled her own private-label wine for many vintages now. Her wine reviews have been published in Diablo Magazine and in various on-line newsletters.
